The way we learn technical skills has changed dramatically. The infinite availability of tutorials and courses creates an illusion of progress — watching someone solve a problem is not the same as solving it yourself. Completion rates for MOOCs hover around 5% for a reason.

Deliberate practice, even when uncomfortable, is the only path to genuine competence. The discomfort of not knowing is the signal that learning is happening. The moment everything feels easy is the moment to increase difficulty.

I've found that the best way to know whether you understand something is to try to teach it. If you can't explain it simply, you don't understand it yet.
